Dear Mama,
Are you tired today? Have you had late nights or sleepless nights? Are you faced with concern over a child’s behavior? Are you struggling to do what is right when doing what is easy seems so much … well, easier? Are you facing discouragement over just getting through another day?
I want to give you hope! Yes, there is hope in the age-old cliché, “They are only little once.” And it is true that in some ways life gets easier as the kids get older … when you no longer need diaper bags and bottles, when all of your children can dress themselves, even when bigger kids can watch younger kids! But if we are looking ahead just to get relief from our weariness, we will be disappointed indeed.
True rest from soul weariness has only one solution … “Come to Me, all who are labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” These are the words of Jesus, and He calls us to come to him to find true rest.
Tired? He is the answer (Matthew 11:28)
Hungry and thirsty in your spirit and soul? He is all you need (John 6:35)
Not sure where to turn? He is the door, and he is the way (John 10:9, 14:6)
Not sure which way is up or down? He is truth (John 14:6)
Exhausted? He is life (John 14:6)
Struggling with spiritual darkness? He is the light (John 8:12)
Need strength? He is the vine and source of our fruit (John 15:5)
Jesus was not a mother, but he surely understands the weariness that comes with ministering to others on a perpetual basis, even those who were often ungrateful! Hebrews 4:15 reminds us that he understands and can sympathize with our weakness. As you face the challenges of daily motherhood, remember to look to Jesus and go to him for rest!
Wishing you true rest (and a nap if you can sneak one in!),
~Stephani
